As a Solid Edge Trainer, i know Solid Edge much better than anyone here, i didn't know so much SolidWorks, that's why i will not speak about something that i didn't really know it. I realize that most of people here know SolidWorks ans Solid Edge(little bit).
Download 45 Day Solid Edge Free Trial: Learn more: https://www.prolim.com/software/solid-ed. Last but not least, Siemens has made Solid Edge available on a monthly subscription which makes it simple and affordable to transition your projects to the Solid Edge design environment. If you are looking for free 2D mechanical CAD tools, download the free Solid Edge 2D Drafting program. It's not a trial version, but a free, full, production. Solid Edge from Siemens PLM Software has everything you need to get up to speed quickly! Solid Edge Professional. An online exam that tests the skills of professionals and students who are experienced users of Solid Edge.
I have been using Solidworks for 5 years and have used CAD systems for the past 25 years. Always was the mantra to reduce the number of clicks regardless of the system being used. Customize menus to speed things up as needed.
So now I have a new job where the decision was made as I was hired to go with Solid Edge. The argument that with Synchronous technology the designer does need to worry about history order, sketches and or mates blowing up etc. Well while that is an over statement, some of it holds water. It is true the sketch relations are no longer an issue because in Synchronous the sketch is discarded. So if a change needs to made to geometry just going back and updating a sketch dim is now out of the options list. Geometry can be changed with the steering wheel, (requires a lot of clicks) or with PMIs. If you move any geometry with the steering wheel, every constraint of that geometry is broken. While there are some advantages in the right situation, a complete loss of intent could be lost. Perhaps some see this as a plus.

We have very simple parts to make our assemblies. An assembly we create will only have 2000 to 4000 parts on average. many need to be assembled in a similar or common fashion. One of the craziest things is if you have a piece fully constrained in an assembly but select one of its faces to mate a part with, the fully constrained part breaks and moves to where ever in space the new part is. The logic being followed is 'I want to do this to that'. At least that is what the fundamentals instructor told us. Our assemblies are large so we have to zoom in and out and pan like crazy to do simple mates/relations. The relations also seem to require a negative value to position parts on the correct side. If the part is already on the correct side why is this required.
While these could be easily avoided or accepted in a new work flow, there are just too many clicks and menu diving to do simple tasks. So after 3 months of using this every day, including weekend time when I had the free 45 trial, I still am having trouble with the UI. R-Click does not pop up a customizable menu but you can get a Radial Menu with a limited number of commands just like Mouse Gestures in SW. Click this, select that, set this option, click preview click ok, click esc---go to next command----really way too much. I keep hearing that SE is so 'Intuitive'. Well after 25 years of using CAD systems I am forced to question that. Perhaps there are a few who this truly applies. ??????
I own a seat of SW and continue to use it for my racing efforts and some consulting work. I know how to create a model that does not 'Blow Up'. The UI with SW and the vast amount of resources to answer questions is a real multiplier to getting things designed. My VAR with SolidWorks has never taken more than an hour and they will call my phone to make sure I have the answer I need if I do not get back to them right away. Our VAR for SE at work tells me to hold on while he goes to Solid Mastermind to see if he can find an answer. I told him I already did that. He then has an 'Expert' call me a day or two later who really only uses NX but he might be able to help. Free download games full version under 500mb for pc. For any real support I have to call GTAC.
I really have tried to learn SE. I think Synchronous / Direct Editing will be the future of CAD modeling who ever has a system available. For me, until SE fixes the crappy UI / menu diving / option after option clicks, I am not interested. Fix it and I would consider buying a seat for own use.
SolidWorks is a CAD package from Dassault Systèmes.
Solid Edge is a CAD package from Siemens
SolidWorks and Solidedge are smilar products from two different companies. Solidworks fromm EDS. SolidEdge from UGS (Siemens).
Like Camry from Toyota and Altima from Nissan.
On few features one got slight advantage over other. But overall both are comparable in terms of performance including price.
Many many years ago (probably 8-9yrs), when I went to SolidEdge training, the trainer told me that SE is very user-friendly and I agreed. That time SolidWorks was a mess, too many pirates wondering around making copies. Today, I went for SolidWorks training, I still think SW is not as user-friendly as SE many years back. However, I'm not sure how is SE doing now.
solidworks is much more userfriendly. It lets the operator to work very quickly and very correclty with just the mouse.

I am using Solid Edge now because in university they use that program. How i see it, it has too much keybindings, to much reliance on the keyboard and that slows progress down. in Solidworks to extrude something, you just draw a box and press 'extrude'. In solid edge, it takes at least 5 clicks to extrude.
The answer to this question may be difficult for your solid work's users. However, the truth may burn just a little, what you need to understand is what is the difference between the two products. Hold onto your seats! I would not want you to fall off your kernel.
The only difference between the two software's is the manufacturer however, the interfaces are also somewhat different. Until a couple of years ago, when solid works were truly the most powerful program on the open market it was powered by a kernel owned by Unigraphics/Siemens/solid edge. At this point, solid work was at its most affordable powerful however with the understanding that they truly did not own the technology they opted to go in a different direction. So until recently there were no difference and many of you may not want to admit it but the best software on the market his solid edge excluding its big brother NX.
I have used both programs for a number of years it is true that solid works provide many bells and whistles to make it easier for you to get the job done. However, with solid edge you can create the same type of work without using all the bells and whistles. Now the next time your sitting at your design station take a deeper look into your system and send a request to solid works/ Dassault to give Dcubed / Unigraphics/Siemens a great amount of thanks for allowing them to be on the market.

Solid Edge sucks system resources solidworks dosent.
Exactly what Jusef Madhloum said, plus customer base. SolidWorks has a much larger customer base than SolidEdge. Customer base is often more important than a CAD program's capabilities, particularly if you're looking for work. CAD is an engineer's communication tool and companies are looking for engineers who speak their own language.

We used SolidEdge then switched to SolidWorks, the many reason at the time was the excellent simulation utility that is built right into SW. The graphics utility is fantastic and very flexible. One main reason that SW market share is so significant is their depth of support. And probably above all else they listen.
The marketng agains the development spending. The form agains the function paradigm. The smoke & mirrors vs. innovation and technology. The first is for SOlidWorks, the second - for Solid Edge. How the fake can be better than the genuine part ..
I am using now solidworks 2015 SP4 and since the last 2 years, this software is the most unstable and unpredictable I've ever seen and used. You may loose your hours of work. It closes suddenly, some functions and sub-apps don´t work at all and in addition, solid services (in Mexico) only say.. 'is your video board', 'may be is the user'. 10 times better others like solidedge, vectorworks for other kind of designers or even ashllar vellum for mac. I hate solidworks as you can see.

i agree that SolidWorks is a good product, but it there a lot of weakness, same for Solid Edge , it is a good product and there is weakness.
Now the questions is for me as a know Solid Edge : what is the deal with Solid Edge :
Answer : Surfacing environement is easy to use
Synchronous Technology (Direct Editing)
Synchronous Technology (Direct Modeling)
Big Assembly management
2D Drafting (is free software for public)
KeyShot Licence integrated
Part Sheet Metal is really a good and advanced module
And the price of a fully licence with all module is more shipper that SW.
Finally, Solid Works use parasolid native geometry (develloped by UGS in the past wich is belong to siemens).

To close this discussion, i can say that each CAD Software is better in specefic module , and worst in other..I prefer both software but the reality that SW is more popular
Solid Edge Trial
SolidWorks has very good sheet metal and developing capabilities and a well-polished workflow for top-down design. It has lots of rendering and simulation partner applications.
The main difference between these two software is synchronous technology. Solidedge has synchronous technology but Solidworks uses history based modeling. Solidworks is very easier to learn that's the reason Solidworks has more customer compared to solidedge. Best feature of solidedge is editing the feature is easier.

they are 2 midrange CAD software at some price level of around 8K Euroseat. Surprisingly they share the same kernel (Parasolid) but a very different interface: Solidedge invested on direct modelling which is a real revolution and very useful with imported data. Solidwork invested in usability and added function like cost extimation and a good fem solver. SW is somehow better with surfaces but it is limited anway. I abandoned SE but i think that tecnically it's more innovative and i came from old modelling school. In short future we'll see...
